7. Look for stories, or start writing them, then talk to us about them

We believe the best stories have yet to be written. Our Lord has a storehouse of great story ideas yet unmade and unseen. He has been waiting for a body of believers to whom He can entrust to describe His glory. Pray and seek Him out to be the vessels for these stories.

But here’s the key...

You must equip yourself to be the best storyteller possible. That means knowing drama, cinema, screenwriting at the highest levels. What we do not need are more earnest, but unprepared Christians who have a great heart and desire, but have not done the hard work to be excellent.

8. Join one of our productions

We need talented, experienced Christians in all facets of filmmaking. Take a look at the pages for

Development, Production, and Distribution.

Then pick a place to start. If you don’t have a lot of experience, contact us to see how we can train you. If you’re already an expert in a filmmaking discipline, call us to join for staff or production positions. You must have a heart for Christ and a willingness to teach others.

9. Donate to Home School Organizations

Home school families and students have served the Christian community well. Many are educating their children to be a blessing in their homes and communities. Like many from private and public schools, home educated students have also proven their abilities to excel at the highest levels in academia, government, business, law, the arts and communications. It is from this great source of talent and commitment to excellence that this film program will be drawing from. Here are some organizations you should consider supporting: Home School Legal Defense Association (www.hslda.org), and the Home School Foundation (www.homeschoolfoundation.org).

10. Donate to Patrick Henry College

This unique college deserves your attention.

Please visit the PHC website (www.phc.edu) and see for yourself what the college is doing to train young men and women for Christ and for Liberty. Many of our first production team members are students from Patrick Henry College. They could use your support and encouragement.

1. Pray for our team

As a group and as individuals dedicated to making Christ-honoring films, we will be under the spotlight. Pray that everything we do will give credit to glorify God alone. Soli Deo Gloria!

2. Become a MEMBER of our program

We need you to stay connected with us. This will be a long term effort to rebuild culture for Christ. Becoming a member allows us to stay in touch with you via email alerts, announcements and newsletters. Depending on the level of your membership, you may also receive many instructional benefits from this film program. This aspect of Advent is still in development, but for now you can join our Advent Supporter mailing list at the link above.

3. Buy our movies on DVDs or rent a local theater to show them

Hollywood uses their pre-existing distribution systems to release their movies. We are depending on you and other motivated Christians to spread the word about our movies.

4. Let your Church and friends know about AFG

It’s important that pulpits across America know that there are dedicated Christians filmmakers who want to serve God by placing Christ at the center of the stories we tell. In the past, churches were hostile to cinema or have remained silent in supporting Christians in the film industry. Their reasons were largely well-founded and often well-meaning, but the results have been devastating. By ceding this industry to the secular world, we have undermined our own abilities be created alternative content.

5. Donate gift cards for food and fuel

Food is the fuel of filmmakers. It’s the one thing on the set that keeps everyone going during the arduous physical production phase of filmmaking. Please think about sending gift cards from restaurants, grocery stores, pizza parlors, bakery and bagel shops. It takes about $25 per day to provide 3 meals, snacks, and drinks for each person on the set. There are usually 20 -30 cast and crew members during 18-22 days of productions. (Note: We are not (yet) set-up as a non-profit group so your donations are not tax-deductible.)

6. Build tools that our filmmakers can use

Cranes, jibs, dollies, and steadycams are expensive equipment that make it easier for filmmakers to tell stories with more power and drama. The good news is that these filmmaking tools can be homemade using inexpensive materials from your local hardware store. If you’re handy with power tools and like to make gadgets, please call us. We can send you plans and parts list. You’ll get screen credit and the gratefulness of generations of future filmmakers.

Fighting against a half a century of Hollywood Monopoly isn’t going to be easy, and we will need your help to get this thing off the ground. In the coming months, this page will equip you to help us make the dawn of Christian Film a reality. Whether you are a homeschool parent, student, teacher, businessman, pro-life advocate, or an indie film buff, you can make a difference that will bring Christ into the darkness of our culture. This is not just a call to sell a movie, it’s a call to join a movement to break the choke-hold that Hollywood has placed on moral, Christian productions. And if we all join together, we can do it. God has provided the technology, the company, and the people, and is opening the doors to creating a whole new kind of Christian entertainment that breaks all the rules and the stereotypes. It will take time to develop the filmmakers, and the resources, but the core is already in place. The future begins now. Will you accept the calling to build a new kind of film culture that honors God with truth and excellence?

We are still building our support resources, but we want to keep you informed. Joining our Support Advent mailing list (below) will allow us to contact you when new resources become available.  We will soon be offering opportunities for corporate partnerships (see bottom for contact info), church partnerships, and opportunities for individuals to become official representatives of Advent. For individuals, there will also be lots of cool suggestions about how you can build buzz in your local community.
